Pilgrimage to the Marian Shrines

Day 1: Depart USA
Our spiritual journey begins as we depart on our transatlantic flight to Paris. Meals and drinks will be served aloft.

Day 2: Arrive Paris
Upon arrival in Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport, we will be met by our tour escort and transfer to our centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is free.

Day 3: Paris
Today we will enjoy a full day tour of the "City of Lights" including visits to the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the famous Opera House, the Arc de Triomphe, Montmartre with its magnificent Basilica of Sacre Coeur, and the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal at Rue de Bac where Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in 1830.

Day 4: Paris / Lisieux / Paris
Depart Paris and drive to Lisieux, the home of St. Therese the "Little Flower of Jesus". Visit the home where she lived as a child and the Carmel Convent where she was a nun. After Mass, visit the Basilica of St. Theresa, its Crypt, and the 13th Century Gothic Cathedral of St. Peter.

Day 5: Paris / Lourdes
Transfer to the rail station to board our train to Lourdes, one of the great pilgrimage shrines in the world. It was here where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette in 1858 proclaiming herself the "Immaculate Conception". This evening we will participate in the Blessed Sacrament Procession and the Candlelight Procession.

Day 6: Lourdes
We have all day to experience the special atmosphere of this beautiful town. Attend Mass at the Grotto of Massabielle, visit the Basilica of St. Pius X, see the house where Bernadette lived during the Apparitions, and visit several of the sites where miraculous cures have taken place. After dinner, join the candlelight procession.

Day 7: Lourdes / Zaragoza
Today we depart France for Spain. Drive across the Pyrenees Mountain range to Huesca, a typical Pyrenean town. Visit the Gothic Cathedral, with its beautiful doorway, which stands high above the town. Continue to Zaragoza. This city (whose name derives from Caesar Augustus) is the chief city of Aragon and had traditions connected with the story of St. James, and is the birthplace of the great Spanish painter, Francisco Goya. Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Pilar, where our Blessed Mother appeared to St. James in 40 AD.

Day 8: Zaragoza / Madrid
Depart Zaragoza for Madrid, the sophisticated capital of Spain, which offers Madrilenos and visitors alike some of the most fabulous treasures in all of Europe. Upon arrival in Madrid we will check into our hotel with the remainder of the day free for personal activities.

Day 9: Madrid
Today’s city tour of Madrid will show us some of the history and tradition of Spain, including visits to the world famous Prado Museum with its masterpieces of El Greco, Goya, and Velasquez; the Plaza Mayor; the Royal Palace; Puerta del Sol and Retiro Park. This afternoon drive to Toledo, whose old quarter is a treasury of artistic and architectural riches. Preeminent among these is its huge Cathedral, whose contents include works by Velásque and El Greco, who spent his last years in this city. See his masterpiece, the Burial of the Count of Orgaz, which is housed in the Iglesia de Santo Tomé.

Day 10: Madrid / Salamanca
Drive to the walled town of Avila, made famous by St. Theresa, another Doctor of the Church. In Avila, visit the Monastery of the Incarnation where St. Teresa spent many years of her life, then to the Monastery of St. Joseph, her first foundation. Travel to Alba de Tormes to visit the Carmelite Convent which contains St. Teresa’s incorrupt arm and heart. Continue to Salamanca, one of Spain’s foremost cultural centers, a great university city, and a showcase of intricately sculpted Renaissance architecture in golden stone.

Day 11: Salamanca / Fatima
This morning, leave Spain for Portugal. Drive to Coimbra, famous university town. Visit the Convent of Santa Clara La Nova. Continue through the beautiful vineyards of Portugal to Fatima, home to one of the most famous Marian Shrines in the world. After dinner, join the beautiful Candlelight Procession.

Day 12: Fatima
Today, celebrate Mass on the spot where Our Lady appeared at the Chapel of Apparitions. Visit the Basilica to see the site of Francisco and Jacinta’s graves and then on to the hamlet of Aljustrel where the three children lived during the Apparitions. Continue to Valinhos, the site where Our Lady appeared following the children’s release from prison. This evening participate in the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacre, site of the first Apparition.

Day 13: Fatima / Lisbon
After a leisurely start to the day, drive to Santarem for Mass at the Church of St. Stephen. View the "Bleeding Host". Continue to Lisbon, the birthplace of St. Anthony of Padua (the patron saint of Portugal). Visit the Lisbon Cathedral and the magnificent Monastery of St. Jeronimo. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore this friendly city on our own.

Day 14: Lisbon / USA
Say "Adios" today and return home with vivid pictures of the splendors of France, Spain and Portugal forever planted in our memory.
